The new Illumination feature will finally reveal the story of how Gru first met his iconic yellow assistants. Everything we know about this situation is here.
Fans of the Despicable Me film series should get ready for the release of a new chapter. It will be revealed in Minions: The Rise of Gru how Gru and his minions first met and began their adventures together. Release date has been announced for July 1, 2022 for the highly anticipated new instalment in the classic franchise.
The Despicable Me films have grossed a total of $3.7 billion worldwide, making them the highest-grossing animated film franchise of all time. Fans are eagerly awaiting its debut as the fifth and second spin-off prequel film in the Minions series. Mattel and Lego have teamed up with Illumination to produce toy lines based on the franchise’s popularity.
Let’s take a look at what we know so far about Minions: The Rise of Gru. What will the story’s central conflict be? Among the impressive list of voice actors, who should we look forward to hearing from? When and where will the movie be available for viewing? In addition to that, what else should viewers know about this enormously popular family property before the upcoming instalment?
Story: What We’ve known
After the events of the first film, audiences will remember that the Minions first encountered a young Gru near the end.
A young Gru will grow up in the 1970s and worship his favourite supervillain ensemble, The Vicious 6, according to Universal. Minions help Gru prove he’s a badass enough to join the club, so he recruits their help. When the group removes Wild Knuckles as leader, Gru sees an opportunity. One of the most powerful villains in the supervillain universe is made an enemy by Gru, who outsmarts and steals a stone from them. When Gru is confronted with a new peril, he must turn to Wild Knuckles and his trusted Minions for help in combating the evil.
The Despicable Me universe will be well-represented in this film, which should please fans of the previous instalments. “Illumination’s typical subversive humour, pop-culture savvy, full-hearted emotion, vibrant music sense, and over-the-top action” are just some of the words used by Universal to describe the film.
In Minions: The Rise of Gru, fans who grew up with the franchise will finally get the answers they’ve been looking for about Gru’s transformation into an adult.
Cast: Based on information currently available.
This next Despicable Me prequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru, will focus on what occurs after Gru and the minions meet and begin to work together. As he did at the end of the first film in 2015, lead actor Steve Carrell returns to voice the younger Gru. The Minions will be spoken by Pierre Coffin, a longstanding franchise director, once again. Julie Andrews as Gru’s mother Marlena and Russell Brand as Gru’s aide Dr. Nefario are both returning from the franchise in this instalment.. It is not known what exactly Nefario’s role in the film will be, but we can presume it will also show how he and Gru began to work together.
Taraji P. Henson as Belle Bottom, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jean Clawed, Dolph Lundgren as Svengeance, Lucy Lawless as Nunchuck, Danny Trejo as Stronghold, and Alan Arkin as Wild Knuckles are among the new cast members joining the film as The Vicious 6. Master Chow, a kung fu practitioner and acupuncturist, will also be voiced by Michelle Yeoh.

The release date for Minions: The Rise of Gru was a bit of a muddle. When the film first premiered in 2019, it was scheduled to open on July 3, 2020. That date was moved back to July 2, 2021, and again to its present release date of July 1, 2022, because of COVID-related production difficulties.
No later than four months following their theatrical release, Minions: The Rise of Gru and other Universal movies are to be made accessible to stream on Peacock by Universal.

Our knowledge of the rest of the world
Many questions remain about the movie’s plot, and we won’t have any answers until we get closer to the release date, which is still a few months away. However, it’s not clear if the film will explain why Gru is so infatuated with supervillains as an adolescent. Perhaps it will explain why Gru was so desperate to become evil, or perhaps it will leave it open to the audience’s interpretation.
However, it’s evident that this is going to be a respectful homage to a beloved series. Minions: The Rise of Gru is expected to be a success at the box office, and all previous evidence point to this being the case. As a result, fans will have to wait until July to find out how the origin tale of their favourite supervillain unfolds.
Here is a review of Minions: The Rise of Gru
When Master Chow (Michelle Yeoh) begins teaching Kevin, Stuart, and Bob Kung Fu, the film’s funniest and most adorable moments are on display.
The Rise of Gru follows the same formula as the other films in the franchise, and this makes it feel like there isn’t much of a plot to tell. An important object is taken, a person goes missing, and a massive struggle ensues, all while the Minions, who have been wreaking havoc throughout the film, unwittingly save the day. If all you want from the Despicable Me factory is a nice time and some lighthearted comedy, it might work.
Similarly, The Rise of Gru has learned from the mistakes committed in Minions. In contrast to Minions, which got boring because it was only about the minions looking for a master, The Rise of Gru had a lot of side stories that kept you interested until the film’s exciting end.
This is not to say that the picture is devoid of high points. As a children’s film with a few hidden lessons, it’s a good one. Gru wants more than anything in the world to find his family and the respect he didn’t receive at school or at home. The best results can be obtained only when your friends support you in small ways at each stage, and he fires his minions in search of a better group. However, throughout his time with Wild Knuckles, he learns this lesson.
The action sequences are breathtaking, and the animation is as glitzy as you’d expect from an Illumination film. Physical comedy, which usually irritates me, was executed in such a way that I found it amusing. Finally, there were a few heartwarming moments that had the audience in tears.
The crowd erupted in laughter and applause at the conclusion of the film, indicating that it was a hit with its intended demographic. As a result, it is unlikely to attract new fans who have never seen the previous Despicable Me films. No matter what happens, the minions will remain an ever-present threat.
